About Us

Longford Swimming Club was reformed in 1992. Since then it has provided swimming instruction to the highest level to many swimmers. At present Liam Deely is our senior coach and is assisted by Ronan Mc Niven , Paula Farrell, Mary O Boyle and Carmel Leahy. Members are prepared for competition over a period of time and the club has gained a growing reputation for its success in the pool.

At present, we use the pool twenty one and a half hours per week. This is the minimum number of hours we are seeking in the new pool to meet our requirements. We are hoping to develop an elite squad in the near future and will be hoping to extent the number of hours still further.

We have 120 members currently and hope to bring this number to 150. We have started a recruitment drive and so far the response has been very positive. The club welcomes all members and caters for children with individual needs. This was reflected in the success of Claire Kenny & Patrick Flanagan in the Para-olympics earlier this year. In recent weeks Longford Swimming Club has decided to facilitate Longford Special Olympics in the preparation of athletes for the next Special Olympics World Games in four years time. This will mean that athletes with special needs will be catered for and allow them reach their full potential as swimmers.Given the size of the club , we have had notable achievements at International, National, Connacht , Para- olympics and School level.
